The study explores the awareness,
comprehension, and views on environment education
(EE) program of fifteen (15) selected out-of-school
youths (OSYs). It uses the exploratory sequential method
which employed the EE toolkit, questionnaires, and
interview guide as data gathering tools. Results showed
that the participants’ levels of awareness and
comprehension of the environmental principles, EE
concepts, and skills have significantly increased after the
program. The OSYs viewed EE activities to be beneficial
and relevant, which positively changed their attitudes
toward the environment. Thus, the OSYs’ knowledge on
environmental issues has been heightened through the
EE program. However, though the participants’
understanding on EE has increased, the quality and the
sustainable program may be established to encourage
the involvement of the OSYs in environment-related
activities that will put concepts into practice and for the
practicality of the EE program in the community.
