By using the assistance of digital imaging and specialized computer software nuclear morphometry provides an objective measurement of nuclear abnormalities which are reproducible. Pattern of abnormalities vary from simple balanced rearrangements to complex abnormalities between malignancies. Nuclear changes in the oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) may help in prediction of the malignant transformation rate. Hence nuclear features being one of the criteria in distinguishing them. Oral leukoplakia (OLP) is a potentially malignant disorder with a malignant potential ranging from 0.1317.5%. Recently a new histological variant of leukoplakia i.e. leukoplakia with Orthokeratotic dysplasia (OKD) has been identified which is often found to be associated with carcinoma-in-situ (CIS) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).
